EOU Signed Cross Country/Track and Field Recruits as of 5/5
Men:
Logan Anthony, Pierce, ID (Timberland HS): Track and Field (Hurdles). Logan is in only his second year of Track and Field and has shown some strong promise, especially in the 300 hurdles. Logan has good athletic ability and strong roots to EOU as both his parents are EOU grads.
Ryan Booth, Post Falls, ID: CC/Track (mid distance). Ryan is a superb student (4.0) and has a lot of raw untapped talent as he is only in his second year of running and is competitive in anything on the track from the 400 to the 3200 meter run as well as 5K Cross County. Ryan was also the Idaho 5 A State Champion at 146 pounds in wrestling, so he is a proven competitor.
Terry Johnsen, Umatilla, Or (Hermiston HS:. CC/T & F (long distance). Terry is one of the top 5A CC runners in Oregon this past fall (9th at the 2007 OSAA Sate CC Championships). Terry is ambitious and hard working and has parlayed that work ethic into a very strong senior year, dropping over 90 seconds off of his 5K PR last fall in CC (Terry ran for Umatilla his first three years of HS) and has seen some similar improvements on the track so far this spring with good things to come.
Asa Mille,: Spray, OR: T & F (High Jump and Hurdles). Asa is one of the top High Jumpers in Oregon and has a lot of raw untapped potential- for example; Asa is one of the best 1A hurdlers in Oregon and has 4 hurdles to work with and no track. Asa may see action as a Decathlete. He is also a very strong student (in line to be his class Valedictorian).
Zachary Steele, Salem, OR (West Salem HS): CC/T & F (long Distance) Zach is another strong student with local connections, with family in Hermiston, Baker City and Wallowa County and his cousins (Shelby and Ashley Zacharias) ran for EOU a few years back.
Women:
Jessica Baty, Pendleton (Western Oregon University): T & F (Hurdles). Jessica is better known for her volleyball skills (she will play Volley ball at EOU in the fall), but is a high quality 300 meter hurdler as well and is an over all athletic individual.
Christine Eckstein, Bend (Mt. View HS and Community Colleges of Spokane). CC/T & F (middle to long distance). Christine is a tough, mature competitor who will bring a long list of strong event performances (her current season/personal best in the 1500 is faster than the NAIA “A” standard) to EOU. Christine will add depth and top end punch on the track from the 800 to the 5,000 meter run (including the Steeplechase) as well as Cross Country. Her strong work ethic and fearless racing style will be an asset as well.
Heather Gibson, Lovelock, NV (Pershing County HS): T & F (Sprints & Jumps) Heather is a quality, versatile sprinter/jumper from a program with limited facilities, and she shows a good deal of potential. She is primarily a 100/200 meter sprinter and long jumps/ triple jumper.
Jessianne Heley, North Bend, OR: T & F (Heptathlon). Jessianne is another very versatile athlete (lettering in CC, Basketball and Track in HS and qualifying for the Oregon 4 A State meet in CC and Track). She is also a proven leader and very strong student (4.0, Valedictorian candidate). Jessianne will mainly focus on the Heptathlon outdoors and the Pentathlon indoors, but could contribute in every thing from CC to the throws if we asked her to.
Kelsey Kinzer, Genesee, ID: T & F (Sprints/Relays). Kelsey is a versatile sprinter, running in the 100, 200 and 400 with a good deal of success. Kelsey is also a strong relay candidate as she is a proven relay competitor. Kelsey also is an exciting prospect as she comes from a program with no track and has run some very quality times.
Jessika McClune, Elgin OR: T & F (Sprints/jumps/hurdles). It is not very often we sign an athlete who has run faster than one of ours school records, but Jess is one of those rare individuals as her life time PR in the 100 hurdles is faster than our school record. She is also a versatile athlete, as she is among the best 2 A athletes in Oregon in the 100 meter dash, both hurdles races and the long jump. She has several Oregon State titles under her belt (Long Jump and 100 meter hurdles) as well as a number of other top 6 places at the State Meet. Jess may see some action in Heptathlon/Pentathlon as well. Jess is a strong student (potential Valedictorian) in addition to being an accomplished athlete.
