Mounties Open Indoor Season With Several Strong Performances
Nampa ID, January 21— The Mountaineer opened the 2006 indoor season with several strong performances and three qualifiers for the national meet. On the men’s side Matt Lane lead the way hitting the automatic qualifier in the 400m and finishing 4th in 49.50. In the weight throw Adam Cooper hit the provisional qualifier with a throw of 49’11.75”. Other strong performances include Daniel Sipko’s big indoor 3000m p.r. finishing 3rd in 9:10.82, and Mitch Wheelhouse made his collegiate debut throwing the shot put 45’1.5”. The 4x400m relay was perhaps the duel between the sprinters and the middle distance runner. The sprinters got the edge by .93 seconds on a strong anchor leg by Lane, however the mid distance team handed off first on every leg. The women’s team also had many good performances. Chelsea Russell just missed the automatic qualifier in the pole vault with a jump of 10’11.75”. In the 60m hurdles Whitney Haltiner’s 9.69 just missed the provisional qualifier by .03 seconds. Marcella Bosch ran a great mile hunting people down throughout the race to finish in 5:29.82. In the 800m Kyle Janssen ran an indoor p.r. of 2:25.15, and Laura Clayton ran a lifetime best of 2:29.62. The Mounties will be in action in Nampa again next week at the Athletes.com invitational hosted by Boise State University. |

Russell Breaks Pole Vault Record At Athletes.com Invite
Nampa ID, January 28— The Mounties were back in action at the BSU Athletes.com Invite and had several great performances. In just her second meet as a mountaineer Chelsea Russell had an impressive day, breaking the school record and hitting the automatic qualifier in the pole vault with a jump of 11’7”. Freshmen Whitney Haltiner had a busy day doing an unorthodox Pentathlon. She scored over 2900 points and had personal bests throughout even doing two events at the same time. Other highlights for the women’s team include Kyle Janssen, Laura Clayton, Chelsee Harmon, Marika Dobos, and Haltiner all ran personal bests in the 800m. Also the 4x400m relays had a nice back and forth battle throughout the race. The men’s team also had several impressive performances despite a hard week of training. Freshman Tom Dillon made an impressive collegiate debut just missing the provisional qualifier in the high jump clearing 6’5.5”. Adam Cooper threw a seasons best just missing the automatic qualifier in the weight throw with a mark of 51’2’25”. Matt Lane qualified for nationals in a second event hitting the provisional qualifier in the 200 with a time of 22.60, and Daniel Sipko had another big personal best running the mile in 4:28.80. The Mounties will be back in Nampa next weekend with a small squad competing in the United Heritage Invite. |

Men’s DMR Hits Auto Qualifier, Six Others Get Provisional Marks
Nampa ID, February 3-4— A small squad of Mountaineers made journey to Nampa one last time this season for the United Heritage Invite and left with several great performances. Getting things started on Friday night the men’s distance medley relay team hit the automatic qualifying time and punched their tickets to Tennessee. The athletes on the team were Zach Heath, Matt Lane, Mason Giem, and Adam Goulet. The strong performances continued for the men on Saturday as Freshman Mitch Wheelhouse threw a big personal best of 48’1.25”, which is also a provisional mark. Adam Goulet came back after the relay in the 800m to hit the provisional mark with a time of 1:57.81. Dan Davenport just missed an attempt at the provisional qualifier in the pole vault, but still got a seasons best with a jump of 14’5.5”, and Matt Lane improved his national seed running 49.24 in the 400m. The Mountie women got off to a good start on Friday evening as well when the distance medley relay team of Rian Finney, Whitney Haltiner, Kyle Janssen, and Marcella Bosch hit the provisional qualifier. They continued to impress on Saturday as well. In the 800m Marcella Bosch and Kyle Janssen both hit the provisional mark with times of 2:23.36 and 2:23.71 respectively. Sara Bates also had a good day in the 800m running a personal best of 2:29.40. The Final provisional qualifier over the weekend was freshman Whitney Haltiner in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.63. Other season best performances include Erin Gilkinson in the shot, 36’2.75”, in the weight throw Chelsey Wheelhouse and Trisha Harshberger, 45’0.50” and 37’8” respectively, and Whitney Haltiner in the triple jump 33’10”. The Mounties have this weekend off before heading to Moscow Idaho on February 17 & 18 for the final indoor meet before nationals. |

Mounties Get Several Season’s Bests At University of Idaho
February 17 & 18, Moscow Idaho— The EOU track and field team was in action one last time before the National meet and had many strong performances. A small squad was in action on Friday night for the Vandal Indoor. On the women’s side Marcella Bosch ran a very impressive mile running her last 400m in 73.8 seconds and just missing the provisional qualifier with a time of 5:18.40. On the men’s side the 4x400m relay just missed becoming the first team in school history to qualify for the national meet with a time of 3:25.09. The entire team was in action Saturday for the McDonalds Open and the seasons best continued to roll in. Whitney Haltiner had a great day competing in the Pentathlon and finishing with a score of 3031, which is currently 13th in the country. On the way to her impressive day in the pent she improved her provisional mark in the 60h to 9.60 and hit a provisional in the high jump clearing 5’3”. In the women’s shot put Erin Gilkinson unleashed a huge throw of 39’4”, a personal best by over 3 feet. Rian Finney ran the best she has all season with seasonal bests in the mile and 3k with times of 5:33.03 and 11:18.91 respectively. On the men’s side Adam Cooper had a big day hitting the automatic qualifier in the weight throw with a mark of 52’2.25”, improving his season’s best by a foot. Adam Goulet just missed the automatic mark in the 1000m despite having to lead the entire race. Other athletes with big seasonal bests were Morgan Saltenberger in the men’s 3k, Keith Bauer in the men’s 400m, Chelsey Wheelhouse in the women’s weight throw and Laura Clayton in the women’s 800m. |

Ten Mounties Heading To Tennessee For Indoor Championships
Six men and four women will make the journey across the country to take part in the NAIA indoor national championships. Making the trip will be:

Haltiner Finishes 13th In Pentathlon
Johnson City Tennessee, March 9— The 2006 NAIA Indoor Championships opened today and the Mounties got off to a good start with freshman Whitney Haltiner finishing 13th in the women’s pentathlon with a seasons best score of 3076 points. During the course of the event she had season best marks in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.56 seconds and the shot put with a throw of 32’2.75”. She also was just off her bests in the high jump, long jump, and 800m run. The men’s Distance Medley Relay (DMR) also competed today in the preliminary round. They failed to qualify for the final finishing sixth in their heat, which included many of the best teams in the NAIA. Most of the Mounties will be in action tomorrow with prelims of the running events. Also Adam Cooper will be competing in the men’s Weight Throw, and Chelsea Russell in the women’s Pole Vault. |

Russell Earns All-American, Two Qualify For Finals,
Johnson City Tennessee, March 10— The Mounties had an outstanding day 2 of the NAIA Indoor Championships. Freshman Chelsea Russell lead the way by finishing tied for 4th in the women’s Pole Vault. Her jump of 11’5.75” is her second best jump of the season and earned her first All-American award. In the women’s 800m Marcella Bosch ran a 3 second seasonal best finishing second in her heat and qualifying for tomorrows final. Kyle Janssen also competed in the women’s 800m finishing with a time of 2:28.41. The men also had a good day. In the 1000m Adam Goulet broke the school record and qualified for tomorrows final with a time of 2:28.72. Matt Lane just missed the final in the 400m, his season’s best and school record time of 48.91 was the 8th fastest time of the day. Also in the Weight Throw Adam Cooper threw a 2 foot seasonal best. His throw of 54’2” finished 12th in the event. The Mounties have three athletes competing tomorrow on the final day of the championships. Mitch Wheelhouse will compete in the men’s Shot Put, Marcella Bosch in the women’s 800m final, and Adam Goulet in the men’s 1000m final. |

Goulet Earns All-American, Bosch Finishes 7th
Johnson City Tennessee, March 11— The Mounties wrapped up a strong showing at the NAIA Indoor Championships with another outstanding day. In his third race in as many days Adam Goulet finished 6th in the men’s 1000m with a time of 2:29.96. Marcella Bosch ran another good 800m finishing 7th and just missing All-American honors with a time of 2:24.70. Also competing on the final day Mitch Wheelhouse finished 26th in the men’s shot put with a throw of 47’3.75”, just a little short of his best throw. When all was said and done the Mounties walked away with 2 All-Americans, and the women finished 29th as a team with 2.33 points while the men finished tied for 38th with 1 point.
